As the old Top Gear crew stated, you can’t be a real petrol head if you never owned an Alfa Romeo in your life.
What else there is wich is a MUST on the bucket list? I find
An Alfa Romeo
A Car with pop-up head lamps
A V12
A little 2-seater like an Alfa Romeo Spider (2 birds, on stone)
on my list.
What else?

Anything rotary, you will learn more working on your own out if pure necessity than any other car. (mechanics seem to think they are make of witchcraft)

Any Citroën with hydropneumatic suspension, needs to be on the list too, I think.

Manual, you need to know what it feels like to row your own gears.

Anything that you enjoy driving. I think it should be less about earning “achievements” for specific things and instead about enjoying what you have no matter what it is.

A homologation special. You can never go wrong with a homologation special.
The rest? What Captain of the Beige Wonder said.

Any car with an obsucure and obsolete technology feature. Examples being very early GPS/Sat nav like from the early 90's and 80's/90's 4 wheel steering.

These lists are very subjective, so don’t fall into anyone else’s bucket [list] without thinking what it is about cars you like in the first place. For example, while I’d love to agree with the ’you must have an Alfa at some point’ sentiment, it’s not really very good advice unless you can spring for a 4C. It’s very difficult to find a Spyder or Milano GT in anything but a basket-case condition (and they are always one valve job away from a basket case).
My list of cars is based on likely affordability and perceived fun-factor, now tempered with a need for basic practicality. This doesn’t rule out an Exige or a Caterham, but it does make them deferred for a while. My criteria allow for an XJ Cherokee on the same list as a 68 Mustang convertible with a 289. Some of these I’ve owned already, some have been owned by friends, some I want for totally irrational reasons, which is what makes this a cool list (but only for me). Here are a few on no particular order:
1st Gen VW GTI
Air-cooled and normally aspirated 911. I like 993 & 964 best in carrera2 wide-body-no-tail trim.
Pre 70s F150 step-side
68 Mustang Convertible with the 289. (Friend had one, such a sweet car)
mid 80s 300 TD wagon (had a non-turbo, want to try a little more poke)
Unimog of any vintage
968 s4 (these are reputed to be the best balanced Porsche ever prior to the Cayman)
Cayman S
E28 & E39 M5
E30 325is (great little cars, pretty bullet proof, lots of mods that will outpace the E30 M3)
E30 M3 (good luck finding one)
E46 M3 (such a great motor, very sharp driving car)
Honda S2000. Wow. Not much torque, but f1 revs.
NA,NB, or ND Miata. Or an NC with the flyin Miata turbo kit
Lotus Exige
Caterham 360
Morgan 4/4
Audi RS6 Avant
E46 Touring converted to S52 drivetrain. I know of one that exists, this should be a thing that exists for everyone.
Fox body 5.0. (So you’ll see how far we’ve come)
Crown Vic with pursuit package. So much fun
SHO with Yamaha V8 (if these weren’t so ugly, everyone would’ve bought one)
Any of the Audi/VW turbos from 1.8 up. (Flat torque curve, great driving cars)
997 GT3. (not the RS. Normally aspirated, sounds amazing. Best driving car I’ve ever actually driven in anger)
Newest Generation Corvette
Defender
Jag F
Alfa 4C
Ferrari 458
BMW M-Coupe (clown shoe)
Overland Built FJ80 Landcruiser (HZJ model when importable)
Ford Festiva or other super-lightweight fun to drive beater car
Rally-spec Fiesta
highly modified Corellian Engineering Corporation (CEC)
YT-1300
light freighter.

I agree. The minute you go down a path like this, you find exceptions to the dumb rules. I’m sure there are some very pristigiuos petrol heads who have never had an Alfa, and modern Alfas have been absolute shit for a very long time (measured in decades).

Plus they don’t sell them everywhere, so no one in those countries could be a “true” car fan. I'm not buying that.

True. We have them here, so lots of people drive them. Is a middle-aged mother in Australia a true car fan because she bought an Alfa sedan? While there are very few
true car fans
in America since you can’t buy them there.
